130.Mesopati (WARI)

Maospati, Indonesia maintains a military airbase in East Java. The airfield maintains several squadrons of F-16, SU-27 and T50i jet fighters. Around 1939, the Dutch began to build the Maospati Air Base. This base was built as part of the preparation to deal with Japanese air attacks. When the Pacific war broke out in 1941, this air base was used as a base for Allied troops on the island of Java. When the Dutch surrendered to the Japanese in 1942, the Imperial Japanese Navy took control of this air base.

One of the most stunning places in the world. The Island of Bali in Indonesia. It is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. Bali is part of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species, especially fish and turtles. Being just 8 degrees south of the equator, Bali has a fairly even climate all year round. Average year-round temperature stands at around 30 °C (86 °F) with a humidity level of about 85%. Over-exploitation by the tourist industry has led to 200 out of 400 rivers on the island drying up.

135.Saumlaki (WAPI)

Day 135 completes the flight across Indonesia. We're staging at Yamdena Island. The island has a range of forested hills along its eastern coast, while its western coast is lower which are inhabited by wild water buffalo. Because there are few rivers, there is a lack of freshwater, but the soil supports corn (maize), rice, coconut and sago palms, yams, plantains, mangoes, and papayas. Once we do our fuel-up we have a 200NM crossing to the continent of Australia. Get ready for another adventure!

136. DARWIN (YPDN)

A day we have all been waiting for. After months of crossing from Europe to the Middle east and beyond we are ready for the water crossing to Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Darwin's proximity to Southeast Asia makes the city's location a key link between Australia and countries such as Indonesia and East Timor. The city is built upon a low bluff overlooking Darwin Harbour. The Darwin region, like much of the Top End, experiences a tropical climate with a wet and dry season. The Larrakia people are the Traditional Owners of the Darwin area and Aboriginal people make up a significant percentage of the population.

Much of the property was acquired by the Department of Defence in 1995 to form the Bradshaw Field Training Area used by the Australian Army and the US Army. Kalkarindji and the nearby settlement of Daguragu are the population centres of the land formerly held under the Wave Hill Cattle Station. 139.Tanami Desert (AUTO)

Our destination today is a small oasis south of The Granites. Not an official airstrip, but one that has been carved out by some locals. The Tanami Desert is a desert in northern Australia, situated in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. It has a rocky terrain with small hills, and cacti. The Tanami was the Northern Territory's final frontier and was not fully explored by Australians of European descent until well into the twentieth century. Crossing the expanse of the Tanami Desert, the Tanami Road is actually a fairly well-formed earth/gravel road. It is, however, an isolated route, that is closed after rain. It is recommended that 4WD vehicles are used for the road and outlying areas and you will need to be well-prepared and self-sufficient. It is not recommended for on-road caravans or trailers. Rain can close parts of the road at short notice. Take ample supplies of fuel, food and water as various roadhouses along the track can be unreliable. You should also carry enough drinking water to last two trips, as all dams and bores along the route are classified as undrinkable.
